When designing or managing a dosing system, attention is often focused on the choice of dosing pump. However, accessories also play a key role: it is thanks to these components that the dosing unit can be configured, optimised and adapted to the specific requirements of each application, from chemical compatibility with the dosed additive to the operational flexibility of the system.
In this article, we at Mixtron will take a closer look at the main accessories available for our dosing pumps:
- Bell with ON/OFF function
- Extreme version seals and gaskets
- Tightening key for high flow models
- Barrel flange
- Quick-release hose
- By-Pass
- Mixtron Blender
Bell with ON/OFF function
The bell with ON/OFF function is an accessory that allows you to temporarily interrupt the additive dosing without having to remove the dosing unit from the hydraulic system. Using a special button, you can lock the suction piston and open two valves inside the dosing unit, allowing the incoming water to pass through and exit without any additive being drawn in.
This solution is particularly useful in all applications where the user needs to alternate between treated and untreated water without interrupting the flow of the system. A typical example is seasonal agricultural activities, such as fertirrigation or animal medication, where the need to dose the additive varies throughout the year.
The decision to equip the dosing pump with this accessory is at the discretion of the end user, but it represents a concrete added value for those who manage systems that require operational flexibility.
Seals and gaskets in Extreme version
Seals and gaskets are essential components for ensuring the hydraulic seal of the dosing unit and preventing leaks or contamination. In the standard configuration, Mixtron dosing units are fitted with gaskets that meet the requirements of most common applications.
When the additive being dosed is particularly aggressive, for example, highly acidic, highly alkaline or chemically complex solutions, or when the chemical composition of the fluid to be dosed is not precisely known, we at Mixtron recommend opting for the Extreme version of the seals. In particular, Extreme-version Viton or EPDM seals are suitable for use with acidic additives (low pH), whilst for the mixing of highly alkaline additives (high pH), we recommend choosing Aflas seals. These materials offer superior chemical resistance and durability compared to standard seals, reducing the risk of premature degradation and ensuring greater reliability over time.
The Extreme version is therefore the ideal choice both in the presence of certified aggressive additives and as a preventive measure in all those contexts where the end use of the dosing device is not yet fully defined.
Tightening key for high-capacity models
On the high-flow models in the Mixtron range (MX.950, MX.1100 and MX.1300), the tightening key is included as standard with every order. This is not an optional extra, but an accessory that we considered essential given the nature of these dosing units: larger and heavier than standard models, they are less easy to manoeuvre during routine and non-routine maintenance operations.
The key allows you to easily open and close the dosing bell, simplifying all operations that require access to internal components, from checking seals to replacing worn parts. A simple tool, but one that makes a real difference in terms of practicality and the frequency with which the operator can work on the doser without difficulty.
Barrel flange
The barrel flange is an accessory that allows the dosing unit to be installed directly onto a barrel, offering an alternative to the standard wall-mounted installation using a mounting bracket and wing nuts, which are supplied as standard with low-flow models (up to 3 m³/h).
This solution is particularly suitable for the more compact dosing units, simplifying installation and making the system more integrated and practical, especially in situations where the additive is dispensed directly from drums.
Quick-release hose
The quick-release hose is an optional extra that improves the dispenser’s ease of use, particularly during maintenance and system management tasks.
In this configuration, the suction hose connects to the drum flange and remains attached directly to the drum, rather than to the dosing unit. This makes it easier to disconnect the dosing unit without having to remove the hose as well, which remains in place.
This is a particularly useful solution for those who need to carry out frequent maintenance on the dosing unit or replace it quickly, ensuring greater flexibility and reducing operational times.
By-Pass
The By-Pass is a mixing chamber located outside the dosing unit, which allows the additive to be mixed outside the engine block. This configuration is particularly suitable when using highly aggressive or corrosive additives, as it protects the internal components of the dosing unit from potential damage over time.
The use of the By-Pass therefore represents an additional safety measure, particularly for those using the dosing unit with multiple types of additives or in situations where the chemical composition of the fluid is not always fully known. In such scenarios, separating the mixing process from the dosing unit’s motor helps to increase the overall reliability of the system and reduce the risk of premature wear.
Mixtron Blender
The Mixtron Blender is an additional mixing chamber designed to be installed downstream of the ByPass dosing unit, directly in the hydraulic system.
By its very nature, the ByPass dosing unit produces a pulsed injection of the additive, generated in the bypass and not in the dosing unit motor body. In some installations, this can result in insufficiently homogeneous mixing before the point of use of the solution. The Mixtron Blender solves this problem by providing additional mixing immediately downstream of the dosing unit, making it particularly suitable for systems with very short piping after the injection point and where the solution must be ready for use in a very short time.
This is a new accessory in our range, designed to meet a specific need for precision and consistency in the dosed solution, in contexts where every centimetre of piping is crucial.
Mixtron's advice on choosing the right accessories for dosing pumps
In conclusion, choosing the right accessory for a dosing pump always depends on the application, the nature of the additive being dosed and the installation context. In this article, we have analysed the main Mixtron accessories available for our dosing pumps, but each system has its own specific characteristics.
