The Mixtron by-pass system for dosing aggressive liquids

Protecting the heart of the dosing pump when the additive is aggressive

In many industrial and agricultural processes it is necessary to dose chemically aggressive substances into water: acids, alkaline and corrosive products, chlorine or surfactant-based detergents. These are liquids that, on prolonged contact, put a strain on the components of a dosing pump, starting with the most delicate part: the motor body. It is precisely for these applications that Mixtron developed the by-pass configuration.

The by-pass is a supplementary pipe inside which the mixing of the additive with the water takes place. In this way the aggressive product is mixed in a dedicated channel, without rising up to the top part of the dosing pump, where the motor body is located. The dosing remains identical to that of a standard dosing pump, but the aggressive liquid does not come into contact with the motor and therefore does not damage its components.

The result is twofold: effective protection of the most delicate part of the dosing pump and a significantly longer service life, even with corrosive additives. This is why, in the presence of particularly aggressive substances, the by-pass is not a simple optional extra but a preventive measure that makes the difference to the pump's durability over time.

How the by-pass works and when it is needed

To understand the advantage of the by-pass, you have to start from how a Mixtron dosing pump works. The pump is installed on the water mains and uses the water pressure as its only driving force: it draws in the concentrated product, doses it according to the desired percentage and mixes it with the motive water, sending the solution downstream. The injected dose is always proportional to the water volume passing through the dosing pump, whatever the variations in flow rate or mains pressure.

In a standard dosing pump the additive rises up to the top part of the pump, where the motor body is located. When the liquid is aggressive, it is precisely this contact that represents the problem. The by-pass intervenes here: it diverts the mixing into a dedicated channel, so the corrosive additive completes its path without ever reaching the motor. The dosing does not change, only the route of the aggressive product changes.

When to choose the by-pass configuration

The by-pass becomes the recommended choice whenever substances that can attack the internal parts of the dosing pump are being dosed. The most typical case is chlorine: when dosing it, the by-pass configuration is strongly recommended precisely to protect the internal parts of the motor from the aggressiveness of the compound, avoiding premature damage and significantly extending the pump's service life. Mixtron always suggests it in this type of application, regardless of the concentration.

The same principle applies to acids, alkaline and corrosive products and, more generally, to all additives that on prolonged contact would compromise the integrity of the dosing pump. In these contexts the by-pass is the solution that makes it possible to combine dosing precision with durability over time.

The Mixtron dosing pumps available in a by-pass version

The Mixtron dosing pump is also available in an integrated by-pass version, a configuration that allows the product to work with aggressive liquids without any chemical agent attacking the motor. The by-pass version keeps all the characteristics of the proportional volumetric dosing pump, powered by water alone and with an easily adjustable dosing ratio. Below are two representative models from the range.

MX.300.P150 By-Pass model

A proportional volumetric dosing pump suitable for mixing liquids in various fields of application. Its by-pass system allows the motor not to be attacked by any chemical agent. It has a flow rate variable from 10 to 3000 l/h and a dosing range from 1 to 5%, with an easily adjustable dosing ratio and operation powered exclusively by water. The package includes the dosing pump with user manual, mounting bracket, 1.5-metre suction tube and non-return valve with filter.

MX.1300.P055 EPDM By-Pass model

A proportional volumetric dosing pump for mixing liquids in various fields of application, with the same by-pass system protecting the motor. It represents the highest flow rate in the range, variable from 10 to 13,000 l/h, with a dosing range from 0.5 to 5%. The version with EPDM seals is designed for greater compatibility with certain additives. In addition to the standard equipment, the package includes the sector spanner kit for the cover, useful given the larger size of the dosing pump.

Mixtron, reliable dosing even with the most aggressive additives

Dosing an aggressive liquid should not mean sacrificing the pump's durability. With the by-pass configuration, the Mixtron dosing pump combines the precision of proportional volumetric dosing with protection of the motor body, so the corrosive additive completes its path in a dedicated channel without attacking the most delicate parts. The result is dosing that is always accurate and a significantly longer service life, even in the most demanding applications, in a product designed and manufactured entirely in Italy.

Identifying the right configuration depends on the additive to be dosed, the system's flow rate and the working conditions. The Mixtron team supports the customer in choosing the dosing pump and the most suitable version, by-pass included, according to the specific application.
